You ... Just Younger

In my business I come in contact with lots of woman who are hovering over the edge of  their 40's , 50's and 60's.  The common thread that runs through our conversations is  their concern about aging.  Lets face it none of us like it. I would like to share with you some of my thoughts on how we can look and feel younger.

1. You may have gotten away with an occasional box color in the past but it is now time for you to see a stylist on a regular basis and get your hair professionally cut and colored.  Add darker tones at the root and a few lighter pieces throught out will give you a younger apprearence.  If you are a Blonde you still need to darken your base and cover the gray.
.
2.  If you are still wearing perfume that you wore 20 years ago, please ditch it for a new scent. For the summer I would try Victoria Secrets Beach Angel..oh it smells devine.

3.  Get yourself some new undies.  Probably those bra's , that you are wearing because they are still good do not fit you properly any more. Splurge and get a bra that fits good and looks sweetly  feminine.

3. Start a walking program, get yourself a cute little outfit to wear, and get out there!  You will feel better and start looking better soon.

4. Get a good pair of jeans that really fit you.  A little lower in the rise and some new panties to go with it will make you feel great!

5. I love to spend time with my daughters ages 31, 29 and 15.  When ever I need advice about the lastest products I can always count on them to bring me up to date.  Spending time with younger people will give you great insight !

6. It is never to late to start a skin care regimen.  Only now it will cost you more than if you started 20 years ago.  My pick for over the counter skin care is Olay Regenerist, and you can find coupons and rebates also.

7. Sunless tanning. My pick Fake Bake .  I have used it for years and it is wonderful.  Sold only in salons.  The Sun ages you terrible think of what it does to plums..  Keep using it all year long , it will make you look better and feel better about how you look.

8. If you smoke .. stop.  Its just that simple.  Your health and your sking will love you for it.

9. Whiten you teeth.  A nice white smile always makes you look younger and happier!  My pick
over the counter inexpensive teeth whitner is 5 minute teeth bleach.  Then start conciously start smiling.. no frown lines here!
10. Get at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night.  Sleep does the body good.!

Well there you have it 10 easy thing that you can start to get you underway to a younger you!  Check back with me as I add to this list in the future!  Hugs and Kisses  Lorraine

The Plague of Plastic.. check this out!

Are You Eating These "Obesogens" in Your Food?
by Sue Heintze, Fitness & Nutrition Expert

Scientists have recently discovered that certain chemicals we are exposed to in our environment and our food that can also wreak havoc with our hormones. These have been termed ‘Obesogens’.

Everyday chemicals - particularly those in certain foods, pesticides, canned foods and plastics - are partially to blame for the obesity epidemic. Of course, there's a lot more to it regarding the changes in our food supply over the years, but these harmful chemicals are one of the elements making the problem worse. These estrogenic substances are ingested in significant enough amounts to trigger your body to hold on to its stubborn fat stores.

*Reference: Hormonal Balance, Understanding Hormones, Weight and Your Metabolism - Scott Isaacs (M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.E.)

These chemicals mimic estrogen and cause all kinds of chaos in your body (for both men and women), including:

* Forcing your pancreas to crank out too much insulin, encouraging your body to store fat
* Preventing the release of the hormone leptin (which tells your body that you are full)

You may be aware of all the recent commotion in the news about a toxic substance called Bisphenol A (BPA).

This particular toxic chemical is found in bottles made from polycarbonate plastic – the kind of plastic used to make hard drinking bottles and food storage containers. The #7 on the bottle indicates it contains BPA.

*If the plastic is NOT labeled with a number you can assume it too might be loaded with BPA.

So far BPA has been linked to health problems such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes and has also been shown to affect reproductive development. So, if there are any mums reading, or future mums; take special note. Don’t endanger your children or future children by exposing them to these toxins.

Extreme temperatures can make plastics even more dangerous. You should never microwave plastic or expose it to extreme heat as this causes toxins from the plastic to be leached into the food.

Some canned foods also contain BPA. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) BPA is at unsafe levels in one of every 10 servings of canned foods (11%) and one of every 3 cans of infant formula (33%).

The EWG states that even low doses of BPA can spur both the growth and formation of fat cells.

The EWG reports:

“The unusually broad toxicity of BPA is explained by a prominent scientist as stemming from the fact that BPA can alter the behaviour of over 200 genes — more than one per cent of all human genes (Myers 2006). These genes control the growth and repair of nearly every organ and tissue in the body. Taken in its totality, the range of toxic effects linked to BPA is startlingly similar to the litany of human health problems on the rise or common across the population, including breast and prostate cancer, diabetes, obesity, infertility, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (Myers 2007).

Yet despite its ubiquity and toxicity, BPA remains entirely without safety standards. It is allowed in unlimited amounts in consumer products, drinking water, and food, the top exposure source for most people. The lack of enforceable limits has resulted in widespread contamination of canned foods at levels that pose potential risks. For instance, analysis of our tests reveals that for one of every five cans tested, and for one-third of all vegetables and pastas (ravioli and noodles with tomato sauce), a single serving would expose a pregnant woman to BPA at levels that fall within a factor of 5 of doses linked to birth defects — permanent damage of developing male reproductive organs.”

Thankfully, there are many products on the market now that are BPA-free, particularly in baby bottles and feeding utensils. The fact that these companies have gone to great lengths to avoid using BPA and advertise the fact very clearly on the packaging, shows that this toxic chemical is indeed a big issue.

I was appalled to find out only recently that the spring water bottles I have been using for years are full of BPA! And this is from one of the largest water bottlers in the country. Suffice to say I have since researched and sourced a different company to purchase my drinking water from.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to know what products are safe and what products are potentially hazardous to our health, and our waistlines. We need to be aware and informed, and I’ve made it my business to make sure that you are!

The Bangs Are In!

I would say that for over a year now I have been convincing my clients to cut a fringe on their forehead, and now it is definitely a fashion statement!  So if you have not already jumped on the "Bang" wagon,  now is the time to try some flirty ,fringy bangs!

It's official: Fringe is more fabulous than ever! “Bangs have made a huge comeback in Hollywood,” declares celebrity hairstylist David Babaii, who created bangs for both Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman at this season's award shows. “No matter if you wear your hair down or up, bangs add a style statement of their own.”
Babaii, who also styled Emma Stone for this month’s Glamour, says anyone can pull off a bang, provided the cut suits them. “They can be short, rounded or straight bangs so they fit their face shape.” He recommends having clients try on a wig so they can see what their bangs will look like before the cut—which is exactly what he does with his superstar clientele.

More styling suggestions from Babaii:
• Let bangs grow a bit longer to sweep to one side and clip with a hair accessory
• Create piecey bangs by using a paste to create and define separations
• Use a flat iron and something like Pequi Oil to create a shiny dramatically straight bang
• Texturize bangs to give them a different look
• Use a large round brush to bump the ends under to soften the line
Olivia Wilde's fringe is long, wispy and a bit sexy. It camouflages a high forehead while setting off her eyes.

Wedding Day I "Doo's"

Here is a little video that I put together and actually had fun doing it.  In my opinion hair and makeup are the icing on the cake.  Every Bride is different in what they are comfortable in.  I work around their idea and use it to create a look for them that is both flattering and unique to their personality. In many cases I used hair pieces to make the hair do what I want it to do.  Hair too short?  Add some semi permanent  hair extensions and see you  go from really nice to ravishing.  I love to create  bridals look for  weddings and I hope this video gives you the little twinge in your heart that give me.   Need an on location stylist for your wedding call me!  757-243-7372
